Co-operation and Discipleship

Human beings are creatures that live in groups, so co-operation is an unavoidable human affair. Without co-operation, it is impossible for humans to complete their tasks in a mutually beneficial way, nor can they survive on earth. Humans must help each other and co-operate to achieve a win-win situation so that society can prosper and progress. In the old days of hunting and gathering, human beings had to rely on group co-operation in order to get more foods and avoid the danger of enemies. In modern times, it is even more important for people to work together as a group, otherwise it is impossible for them to survive.

Although co-operation can bring maximum benefits, however, due to the selfish nature of human beings, when co-operating, some people may use their personal interests to the detriment of other people’s interests or the interests of the group. Therefore, when co-operating, there must be a mechanism to punish those participants who do not uphold the interests of the group under co-operation. In this way, those participants who do not uphold the interests of the group will know the importance of cooperation and correct their selfish behaviour to uphold the interests of the group. In such a case, cooperation can continue and maximization of benefits can be achieved. Otherwise, if everyone looks at things from a selfish point of view, then co-operation will be impossible.

The prerequisite for co-operation is sincerity. Without sincerity, if one party is deceived, then the ensuing co-operation cannot continue. Cooperation between the members in the church is often a challenge. If one of them is selfish, he/she will neglect the interests of the group, and instead of providing resources for the church, he/she will consume the resources of the church, which is not conducive to the development of the church.

The Christian life is about going beyond the self and being a blessing to others. We cannot just live in our ego, but we have to constantly transcend our ego and move towards egolessness. As our egolessness grows stronger within us, we are able to let go of our selfishness and work better with others to create greater effectiveness and church growth.

Discipleship is about helping you to become awakened to the meaning of life. The meaning of our lives is not just self-fulfilment, or family fulfillment, or career fulfillment, but must be expanded to include the Kingdom of God in our lives.

群体合作与门徒训练

人类是群居的生物，因此合作是人类无可避免的事务。没有合作，人类就不可能在互惠互利的情况下完成任务，也无法在地球上生存。人类必须要彼此帮助，共同合作，达至双赢，这样社会才能够繁荣进步。以前在狩猎采集的时代，人类必须依靠群体合作才能捕捉更多猎物，以及避开敌人的危险。现代的人们更加不能离开群体合作，否则根本就不可能生存。

虽然合作能带来最大化的效益，然而因着人类自私的本性，往往在合作时，有些人会因着个人的利益，而损害了其他人的利益或群体的利益。因此在合作时，必须要有一个审判机制，惩罚那些没有在合作下，维护群体利益的参与者。这样，那些没有维护群体利益的参与者，才会知道合作的重要性，并且改正自己自私的行为以维护群体的利益。在这样的情况下，合作才能继续下去，效益最大化才能实现。要不然，大家都以自私的角度看问题，那合作就不可能了。

合作的先决条件就是诚意，没有诚意，一方被欺骗，那接下去的合作就无法继续。在教会里弟兄姐妹的合作常常是一种挑战。当中若有人有自私的心态，那他/她就会忽略了群体利益，不但没有为教会提供资源，还消耗了教会的资源，不利于教会的发展。

基督徒的生命就是要超越自我，成为他人的祝福。我们不能只是生活在自我里，而是要不断地超越自我，朝向无我。当我们的无我在我们的内心里越来越强大的时候，我们就能够放下自私，更好的与其他人合作，创造更大的效益，使教会增长。

门徒训练就是要帮助你对生命意义有所醒觉。我们的生命意义不只是自我的成就，或家庭的成就，或事业的成就，而是必须扩大到以神的国为念。

Warisan dan Pemuridan

Pada bahagian sebelumnya, saya telah berkongsi dengan Anda bahawa penciptaan dan warisan adalah alasan mengapa umat manusia terus berkembang. Namun, sangat disayangkan bahawa banyak ciptaan yang belum diwariskan. Salah satu alasannya adalah “keegoisan pribadi”. Hari ini saya ingin berkongsi dengan Anda alasan lain: prasangka atau ketidaktahuan.

Dalam masyarakat kuno, banyak kreasi atau keterampilan unik diwariskan kepada anak lelaki dan bukan kepada anak perempuan. Hal ini terutama kerana persepsi pada saat itu adalah bahawa anak perempuan akan dinikahkan di kemudian hari, dan bahawa mereka seperti “air yang akan ditumpahkan” atau “barang kerugian”, sehingga tidak perlu mewariskan keterampilan terbaik kepada mereka. Kalaupun harus diwariskan kepada anak perempuan, itu harus diwariskan kepada menantu laki-laki, dan mereka harus menantu lelaki yang telah bergabung dengan keluarga isteri. Jika orang yang bersangkutan tidak memiliki anak laki-laki atau menantu laki-laki, dan tidak bersedia menurunkan semua kemahirannya kepada murid-muridnya, maka banyak kreasi atau pengetahuan unik akan hilang.

Umat manusia juga telah melewatkan banyak kesempatan untuk berkarya dan memberi manfaat bagi orang banyak kerana banyak ketidaktahuan dan prasangka. Sebagai contoh, patriarki lelaki umat manusia selama ribuan tahun terlalu telah menekan kreativitas wanita kerana prasangka dan ketidaktahuan, mencegah wanita untuk memanfaatkan bakat mereka untuk kepentingan masyarakat. Lihatlah berapa banyak wanita yang telah berkontribusi kepada masyarakat dengan memanfaatkan bakat dan kreativitas mereka di zaman modern ini. Kita telah menyia-nyiakan motivasi dan kontribusi ini selama ribuan tahun. Dunia seperti apa yang akan kita miliki jika dunia dimulai dengan kesetaraan antara lelaki dan wanita? Mungkinkah kita telah menyia-nyiakan dua kali lebih banyak kreativitas manusia? Mungkinkah peradaban manusia boleh meningkat dua kali lipat jika wanita menyumbangkan kreativitas sejak awal?

Sebuah ide yang tidak didiskusikan dan dikritik secara terbuka tidak dapat direvisi menjadi lebih baik. Hanya ide yang mampu bertahan dalam tantangan untuk menerobos pemikiran artifisial, prasangka, atau ketidaktahuan yang dapat menjadi ide yang bermanfaat bagi semua orang.

Setiap kreasi, ide, pengetahuan, teknologi harus dibagikan tanpa pamrih dan dikembangkan melalui kritik. Sejak tahun 2009, Diosis Anglikan Malaysia Barat, melalui Uskup Ng Moon Hing, telah mempromosikan pemuridan, terutama sistem pemuridan “Gereja Sarang”, yang telah mengarah pada pematangan konsep pemuridan di keuskupan tersebut. Selama 14 tahun terakhir, keuskupan telah memberikan perhatian yang lebih dan lebih pada pemuridan. Namun, kebangkitan ini hanyalah sebuah perhatian terhadap pemuridan. Pada dasarnya semua orang setuju bahawa pemuridan itu baik untuk Gereja, tetapi definisi pemuridan itu tidak jelas. Banyak orang, termasuk para pendeta, hanya memiliki pemahaman yang sepintas lalu tentang ide pemuridan, jika bukan kesalahfahaman sepenuhnya. Saya fikir kita membutuhkan lebih banyak bincangan agar ide pemuridan dapat difahami dengan lebih baik. Jika tidak, kita akan tetap berada dalam prasangka dan ketidaktahuan bahawa “pemuridan adalah klass Alkitab”. Ini sama dengan ide konyol bahawa “wanita harus tinggal di rumah” atau bahawa “orang kulit hitam adalah bangsa yang lebih rendah”.

Inheritance and discipleship training (2)

In the previous sharing, I mentioned that creation and inheritance are the reasons why mankind continues to progress. However, it is a pity that many creations have not been passed on. One of the reasons for this is “personal selfishness”. Today I would like to share with you another reason: prejudice or ignorance.

In the old manly society, many creations or unique skills were passed on to sons and not to daughters. This was mainly because the perception at that time was that daughters would be married off later on, and that they would be like “spilled water” or “high-priced goods”, so there was no need to pass on the best skills to them. Even if it was to be passed on to daughters, it was to be passed on to son-in-laws, and they had to be son-in-laws who had becoming a member of wife’s family. If the person concerned does not have a son or a son-in-law, and is not willing to pass on all his skills to his disciples, then many unique creations or knowledge will be lost.

Humanity has also missed many opportunities to create and benefit the society because of much ignorance and prejudice. For example, the patriarchy of mankind over the past thousands of years has suppressed the creativity of women due to prejudice and ignorance, preventing women from utilising their talents for the benefit of society. Look at how much women have contributed to society by utilising their talents and creativity in modern times. We have wasted these resources and contributions over the past thousands of years. What kind of world would we have had if the world had started out with equality between men and women? Is it possible that we have wasted twice as much creativity as humans? Is it possible that human civilisation could have doubled if women had contributed their talents from the beginning?

An idea that is not openly discussed and critiqued cannot be revised for the better. Only an idea that can be challenged is able break through prejudice or ignorance and become an idea for the benefit of all.

Any creation, idea, knowledge, technology should be shared selflessly and progressed through critique and improvement. Since 2009, the Anglican Church of West Malaysia, through Bishop Ng Moon Hing, has been promoting discipleship training, especially the Sarang discipleship training model, which has led to the development of the concept of discipleship training in the diocese. Over the past 14 years, the diocese has been paying more and more attention to discipleship training training. However, the awakening is merely on the surface. Even though majority in the Diocese agree that discipleship training is good for the Church, but the understanding of discipleship training is still shallow. Many people, including pastors, have only a basic understanding of the idea of discipleship training, or worse, a complete misunderstanding. I think we need more discussion so that the idea of discipleship training can be better understood. Otherwise we will remain in the prejudice and ignorance that “discipleship training is a Bible study”. This is the same as the ridiculous idea that “women must stay at home” or that “blacks are an inferior race”.

传承与门徒训练 (2)

前一期我跟大家分享创造与传承是人类不断进步的原因。然而，许多的创造并没有被传承下来，非常的可惜。其中的一个原因是“个人的私心”。今天跟大家分享的是另一个原因：偏见或无知。

在以前男人主义的旧社会，许多的创造或独特的技术只传给儿子而不传给女儿。这主要是当时的认知是女儿以后会出嫁，是泼出去的水，是赔本货，没有必要把绝活传给她们。就算要传给女儿，也是传给女婿，而且必须是入赘的女婿。如果当事人没有儿子，也没有入赘女婿，又不愿意把绝活全部传授给徒弟，那许多独特的创造或知识就会失传了。

人类也因为许多的无知与偏见错失了许多创造并造福人群的机会。例如：人类的男权主义在过去的几千年，由于偏见与无知，压制了女性的创造力，使得女性无法发挥才干造福社会。看一看女性在现代发挥的才华与创造力，对社会的贡献是何等的巨大。我们在过去的几千年里，白白的浪费了这些的动力与贡献。如果世界一开始就是男女平等，那我们会有一个怎样的世界呢？我们有没有可能浪费了人类一倍的创造力？如果女性一开始就贡献创造力，那人类的文明是否可以翻倍？

一个的思想如果不公开被讨论以及被批判，那这个思想就不能被修正的更完善。唯有经的起挑战的思想，才能突破各项的人为思维，破除偏见或无知，成为一项造福人群的理念。

任何的创造、思想、知识、技术都应该无私的分享以及透过批判不断地进步。西马圣公会在2009年开始，透过黄满兴主教大力推动门徒训练，特别是“爱的教会”的门徒训练系统，带动了门徒训练的理念在教区里的发酵。在过去的14年里，教区也越来越关注门徒训练。然而醒觉的只是大家对门徒训练的关注。基本上大家都认同门训对教会是好的，但是对门徒训练的定义却是模糊不清的。许多人，包括牧者，对门徒训练的理念只是一知半解，甚至是完全的错误理解。我想我们有必要更多的讨论，以便门徒训练的理念能够更完善的被理解。要不然我们就会留在“门徒训练就是查经班”的偏见与无知里。这和“女人必须留在家里”或“黑人是劣等种族”的荒谬想法是一样的。

Pewarisan dan Pemuridan

Penciptaan dan pewarisan adalah sebab mengapa umat manusia terus berkembang.

Manusia tahu bagaimana menciptakan untuk menjadikan sesuatu yang tidak ada menjadi ada. Manusia telah menciptakan barangan dan membuat banyak hal yang mejadikan hidup lebih mudah bagi manusia. Contohnya, manusia telah menciptakan alat musik dan lagu, yang telah membawa banyak kegembiraan dan kedamaian bagi umat manusia. Manusia menciptakan bahasa dan tulisan, mengumpulkan dan meningkatkan pengetahuan, dan mendorong peradaban manusia ke maju.

Manusia tidak hanya tahu bagaimana menciptakan, tetapi juga tahu pentingnya pewarisani. Jika sebuah ciptaan tidak diteruskan, maka ciptaan tersebut akan hilang sia-sia dan tidak akan bermanfaat bagi manusia. Oleh kerana itu, manusia tahu bagaimana cara mewariskan kreasi mereka kepada generasi berikutnya atau merekam kreasi mereka sehingga dapat diwariskan dan dikembangkan untuk kepentingan masyarakat.

Namun, ada beberapa alasan mengapa banyak ciptaan belum diwariskan: Hari ini saya ingin berkongsi dengan anda tentang “keegoan individu”.

Kita selalu boleh nampat banyak kreasi yang hanya diwariskan kepada generasi berikutnya dan bukan kepada orang luar, terutama kerana mereka tidak ingin orang luar mengambil manfaat darinya. Hal ini menyebabkan banyak kreasi yang bagus tidak dapat dikembangkan. Jika seseorang menemukan generasi penerus yang cocok dan cerdas, maka kreasi tersebut dapat diteruskan dengan lebih baik. Jika tidak, maka generasi tersebut mungkin tidak akan sebaik generasi berikutnya, dan bahkan kreasi tersebut mungkin akan hilang dari dunia. Banyak teknik memasak, teknik perubatan, dan teknik kraf tangan yang telah hilang dengan cara ini.

Selain itu, ada pepatah Cina yang mengatakan bahwa “setelah mengajar murid, guru akan mati kelaparan.” Oleh kerana itu, untuk banyak resep atau keterampilan leluhur, gurunya telah meninggalkan beberapa di antaranya, sehingga murid tidak akan melampaui gurunya dan mencuri mangkuk nasi atau ketenaran gurunya. Dorongan dari “murid lebih pandai dari gurunya” sangat jarang terjadi di masyarakat ini. Bayangkan setiap guru menyimpan beberapa keterampilan, yang diturunkan pasti akan segera tersingkir.

Tujuan dari pemuridan adalah untuk meneruskan pewarisan Kristian dengan cara yang lebih baik dan lebih besar. Haruslah kualitas yang lebih baik yang kita wariskan. Tujuan pemuridan adalah transformasi kehidupan para anggota, partisipasi aktif mereka dalam pelayanan, dan kesiapan intelektual mereka. Kita tidak ingin gereja hanya diteruskan dari satu generasi ke generasi berikutnya dan menjadi lebih lemah.

Terlalu sering gereja berfokus pada penyembahan, doa dan pelayanan, tetapi tidak pada pengajaran dan pelatihan. Orang-orang Farisi berfokus pada penyembahan, doa dan pelayanan, namun mereka dimarahi oleh Yesus. Itu kerana mereka berfokus pada ritual keluaran dan bukan pada perubahan hidup dan hati. Mereka terlihat saleh di luar, tetapi jahat di dalam. Warisan mereka adalah “orang buta meminpim orang buta” dan tujuan mereka adalah binasa.

Apa yang kita wariskan di dalam gereja? Apa yang kita wariskan kepada generasi berikutnya?

Untuk mewariskannya dengan lebih baik, kita harus memiliki cara pemuridan yang lebih baik. Kita tidak hanya harus memiliki filosofi pemuridan, tetapi kita juga harus memiliki cara pemuridan. Hanya ketika filosofi digabungkan dengan metode, maka kita dapat melakukan pemuridan yang lebih baik.

Inheritance and Discipleship Training

Creation and inheritance are the reasons why mankind continues to progress.

Humans know how to create and turn something that does not exist into a fact. Humans have created crafts and made many things that make life easier for people. Humans have created musical instruments and music, which have brought much joy and peace to mankind. Humans created language and writing, accumulated and improved knowledge, and pushed human civilization upwards.

Humans not only know how to create, but also know the importance of inheritance. If a creation is not passed on, it will be lost for nothing and won’t benefit the people. Therefore, human beings know how to pass down their creations to the next generation or record their creations so that they can be passed down and improved for the benefit of the people.

However, there are several reasons why many creations have not been passed on: Today I would like to share with you the “selfishness of the individual”.

In ancient times, many creations were only passed on to the next generation and not to outsiders, mainly because they did not want outsiders to benefit from them. This prevented many good creations from being improved. If one comes across a suitable as well as intelligent next generation, then the creation can be passed on better. If not, then the generation may not be as good as the next, and even the creation may eventually disappear from the world. Many culinary techniques, medical techniques, and handicraft techniques have been lost in this way.

In addition, there is a Chinese saying that “after teaching the disciple, the master will starve to death”. Therefore, for many ancestral recipes or skills, the master has left a handful of them, so that the disciple will not surpass the master and steal the master’s rice bowl or fame. Encouragement of “disciple surpass the master” is very rare in this society. Imagine every master keeping a handful of skills, the ones passed down will surely be eliminated very soon.

The purpose of discipleship is to pass on Christianity in a better and greater way. It must be a better quality that we pass on. The purpose of discipleship is the transformation of the lives of the members, their active participation in ministry, and their intellectual preparedness. We don’t want the church to passing on one generation weaker than another one.

Too often churches focus on worship, prayer and service, but not on teaching and training. The Pharisees focused on worship, prayer and service, yet they were scolded by Jesus. It was because they focused on external rituals and not on inner life change. They were pious on the outside, but evil on the inside. Their legacy was “the blind leading the blind” and their way was to perish.

What are we passing on in the church? What are we passing on to the next generation?

To pass it on better, we must have better discipleship mechanisms. We must not only have a philosophy of discipleship, but we must also have a method of discipleship. It is only when the philosophy is coupled with the method that we can do a better job of discipleship.

传承与门徒训练

创造与传承是人类不断进步的原因。

人类懂得创造，把一样不存在的东西变成了事实。人类创造了工艺，制造了许多使人们生活更加便利的事物。人类创造了各类的乐器以及音乐，为人类带来许多的喜乐与宁静。人类创造了语言与文字，把知识累积并且不断地改进，把人类文明不断地往上推高。

人类不但懂得创造，也知道传承的重要。一项创造如果没有被传承，那人类就白白的失去这可以造福人群的创造。因此人类懂得把创造传给下一代，或者把创造记录下来，以便这项创造能不断地传承并且不断地改进，造福人群。

然而，许多的创造没有被传承下来，原因有几项：今天跟大家分享的是“个人的私心”。

在古代，许多的创造只传给下一代，并不传给外人，主要是不想外人得到好处。这使到许多美好的创造没有办法得到更好的改进。如果碰到适合以及聪明的下一代，那这项创造就能更好的传承下去。如果不能，那就可能一代不如一代，甚至最后这项创造也可能在这世上消失了。许多烹饪技术、医学技术、手工技术、就是在这样的情况下失传了。

另外，华人有句话，“教会了徒弟，饿死师傅”，因此许多的祖传的秘方或技艺，师傅都留了一手，以免徒弟超越了师傅，抢了师傅的饭碗或名气。鼓励青出于蓝的量度在这社会上非常少见。试想一想，每个师傅都留一手，那传承下来的肯定很快就会被淘汰了。

门徒训练的目的就是要把基督教更好、更大的传承下去。我们传承下去必须是更好的质素。门徒训练的目的是会友生命的改变、积极参与服侍以及在知识上更全备。我们不希望教会传承的是一代不如一代。

教会往往注重在崇拜，祷告和服侍，但却不注重教导与训练。法利赛人很注重崇拜，也注重祷告，也不忘记服侍，然而他们却被耶稣骂的狗血淋头，这是为什么呢？这是因为他们只注重外在仪式，不注重内在生命的改变。他们表面是虔诚的，内在却是作恶的。他们所传承下来只是“瞎子带领瞎子”，目标只是灭亡。

我们在教会里到底传承了什么？我们又把什么传承了给下一代？

要更好的传承，就必须要有更好的门徒训练机制。我们不单要有门徒训练的理念，也必须有门徒训练的方法。理念再加上方法，我们的门徒训练才可以做的更好。
